Exciting suspense

This is a spine tingling suspense novel with a mystery that lasts until the very last page. The heroine is a prosecutor and you assume that the bad guy who kidnapped her son is one of the family members of the man she has just put in prison. Although this family is evil and certainly causes a large amount of trouble the true mystery is rooted in the heroine's past and is convoluted and the path to solving the mystery is full of red herrings and is so well done that you don't see the bad guy's identity until the end. The hero in this book is an FBI agent who met the heroine nine months ago and has had a thing for her ever since. He even transferred to a different task force to be closer to her. I love this kind of passion, and I liked both of these characters. They are both old enough that they have experienced life's ups and downs and also quite a bit of tragedy between them. It's a credit to the writer that the chemistry between the characters is hot and passionate despite neither of them being "perfect". I have read every book that this author has written so I enjoy the supporting cast of characters many of whom we have met in previous outings. This is a great book for those who like can't put it down mystery, suspense, thriller type books with just the right amount of sex and passion to keep things interesting.

Did You Miss Me

This is the latest Karen Rose title and already I cant wait for the next one. As usual she writes a complex story with lots of twists & turns. It wasn't until I was 80% through the book that I decided who the killer was and then I wasn't quite right. This story keeps you on the edge of your seat right until the last page. I highly recomend it to any lover of thrillers!

Awesome - mostly

Loved this book, didn't want to put it down - I was actually reading it at work (shhhhh!). I was completely drawn into the suspense of the story, and it was great to see characters from previous books and "catch up". Ms. Rose does a fantastic job of really putting you "there" in the story, so much so that the whole courthouse steps scene had my heart pounding. The mystery was very well done; I truly didn't know whodunnit until the last chapter of the book, and that's rare these days.

I enjoyed Joseph and Daphne, and it was great to see them get together. But... something about their interactions felt a little forced to me. In the previous book Daphne is a total character, with her big hair, bright suits and Southern twang. That Daphne was nowhere in sight in this book - which is kind of understandable, given what she goes through in the 3 days' time this story covers, but it's like her personality was completely different, and we're never treated to the "old" Daphne. The ending was also a little abrupt, I thought.

The character that really kept my attention - and it wasn't even his story! - was Clay Maynard. Man, he had a rough couple of days, and it didn't end with a shiny happy rainbow for him. I'm hoping the next book is his and Stevie's. Stevie, put the poor guy out of his misery already!!

Totally worth the purchase, and I can't wait for the next one!

Good learning book.

Even though I didin't love the projects featured in the boook, I got exactly what I wanted, a book that would give me some insight on the modeling people subject. It is a great reference book for anyone interested in making incredible characters out of modeling paste. This is a good starters book, but you can take all the things you learn to the next level with some practice. Good purchase overall.

About the Author

Javier Salazar Calle was born in Madrid on July 29, 1976. He is majored in Business Administration and Computer Engineering and has always worked in the banking world. When he was younger he mostly wrote short stories, but later moved on to the world of micro-stories, two of which have been published in two competitions (V Contest of micro-stories about lawyers and Fantasti'CS 2013). One of his poems has also been published in the anthology "Versos desde el coraz�n" (Verses from the heart).

"Ndura. Son of the forest" is his first book (voted best young adult fiction for 2014) and he has just published his second book "LinkedIn for employees, companies and entrepreneurs" and a third one is on its way, which would have more of a Noir Fiction genre.

He is characterized by the versatility of the topics he addresses and by the prior meticulous investigation labor he carries out before writing his books.

It should go without saying that works of fiction are the products of dreams. Someone has a mental
and/or emotional image of an outcome and from that image a work of some type is created. Rarely is
that work presented as the dream itself, and rarer still is the dreamer the sole protagonist. Yet, Javier
Salazar Calle has done exactly that in Ndura, the Son of the Forest. I have to admit that reading a work proclaimed by the author from the beginning to be a dream derived from the time just before sleep is a strange feeling and one that having read the work still will not leave me. The difference between this work and most works of fiction is that this is told as a first person narrative of a personal experience that constantly struggles between normal anxiety, objective observation and outright panic.

So, what if you were a passenger in an aircraft targeted by a ground-to-air missile flying over the
equatorial jungle of central Africa near the border of the Congo, Uganda and the Sudan? What if rebels killed or enslaved any surviving passengers; what if you saw your two best friends killed one in the crash, one by the rebels, while you managed to escape into the jungle? Thus, the stage is set for the author’s imagination and extensive research into central Africa forest flora and fauna, the Pigmy people and his idea of what his reactions would be if he were actually experiencing being marooned for a number of days in a central African forest. The rest is the tale of the trek itself, starvation, fatigue, ants, mosquitoes, snakes and misery.

My mind wandered away from the story as I read; after all, this was a dream, the story wasn’t
happening. I use my imagination to immerse myself into the action and to identify with the characters in the stories I read. Therefore, the action should count for something. When you’re told from the beginning that the story is only a dream, I’m sorry, I can’t get into it. Nevertheless, aside from a few, but apparent editing errors, the story was well written and effectively conveyed the anxiety, panic, and other emotions he was striving to achieve in the reader. Because of the emotions his descriptions evoked and because he included a glossary of Swahili and Pigmy words used in the story,
I felt four-stars were appropriate.

An Amazing Story

Ndura Son of the Forest
I could feel, smell, and hear the forest setting in this amazing story. This is the type of book that is hard to put down. Javier Salazar Calle does an incredible job of enticing the reader to read more without stopping until the story is finished. Because this is a translated version of the story, a few errors of English syntax caught my attention. These were so few that the thrill of the story was never compromised. Every chapter is filled with adventures and enigmas of how to sustain life in a place that has enormous challenges. I was fascinated by how the main character learns to survive in the forest by carefully observing and experimenting. His perseverance was admirable. The definitions that were included at the bottom of the pages made reading this book educational as well as entertaining. I highly recommend this book. This reader gives Ndura Son of the Forest
five stars.

Beautifully written book

This is a beautifully written book which evocatively brings to life the struggle to survive in the African forest. The plant life, animals and the forest itself are brought vividly to life with the author's careful, sensitive descriptions. It is very easy to imagine yourself walking each step in the narrator's shoes. For anyone who likes to imagine themself on an epic, challenging adventure, this is the book for you. The book is a translation from it's original Spanish and sometimes the choice of language seems a little odd, but it is still very readable and enjoyable.

This book is a must read for anyone working in a HQ or GHQ setting. While this is all based on WW2 it give you insights as to how an Army HQ works while in battle,There are very few publish books that can give you that. Excellent!

The first exhibition to explore the culture of vinyl records in the history of contemporary art, The Record features rarely exhibited work and recent and newly commissioned pieces by thirty-three artists from around the world. These artists have taken vinyl records as their subject or medium, producing sound work, sculpture, installation, drawing, painting, photography, video, and performance. Works by well-known artists such as Laurie Anderson, Jasper Johns, Ed Ruscha, and Carrie Mae Weems appear alongside those of other North American artists, and of artists from Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America, some of whom have never before exhibited in a U.S. museum. Among the works shown are David Byrne's original Polaroid photomontage used for the cover of the 1978 Talking Heads album More Songs about Buildings and Food, the fictive soul "album covers" created by the outsider artist Mingering Mike in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and Wheel of Steel (2006), an arresting narrative of record-playing told through digital photos by the South African-born and Berlin-based artist Robin Rhode. In addition to the 225 images, 200 of which appear in color, the catalog includes personal reflections and critical analyses. All of the artists in the exhibition contribute personal statements about their work in relation to the vinyl record, and critics and scholars explore the historical impact of the record on art and music and the ways the medium has helped shape individual and collective identities.

A good appetizer!

I didn't know James Salter; it is one of the rare occasions I bought a book, just by reading the comment on the back. And I'm not disappointed. Salter's writing style is very unattached, soberly describing and also a bit cinematographic. It is striking almost all his main characters are women. Salter is a master in describing or suggesting the things that remain unspoken: often melancholy, regret of missed chances, a sense of the futility of life. All this you can find in the 8-page story Dusk, really a very strong piece of writing. Not everything was of the same level, of course, but there were several Jewels in this book. I think I will read more by Salter
