SOOOOOO GOOD.........

WOW, FRAMED was SOOOOOO GOOD. A QUICK ENJOYABLE READ, with UNFORGETTABLE CHARACTERS. I was LITERALLY GLUED to my KINDLE this MORNING, UNTIL the VERY LAST PAGE. SIMONE aka KRAZY was FUELED by REVENGE, for the PEOPLE who BETRAYED and PLOTTED AGAINST HER. WIth a LOT of TWISTS and SOME JAW DROPPING REVELATIONS. I was LEFT WANTING MORE and WISHED it was LONGER. T.L. JOY and SIMONE MAJORS DEFINITELY TOOK THIS SERIES TO ANOTHER LEVEL, and I'm HOOKED. I NEED pt.3 ASAP, and HOPE it's in the MAKING SOON. I LOVED THIS MUST READ..........

This book was too short for the price. It has a lot of twists, that you can't seem to grasp as it takes way too many turns! One minute it's Smooth and Sweetz, then it was basically about the other two women. It was just ok to me.

At age 15, Melissa Moore learned that her father, Keith Jesperson, was a serial murderer. And for the next 15 years, she tried to keep that painful fact a secret. Now 30 years old and author of the recently released book; Shattered Silence: The Untold Story of a Serial Killer's Daughter, Moore has spent the past year finally liberating herself from the guilt and shame she felt over her father's past. I know I'm in the perfect place at the perfect time, telling my story to those who have been searching for answers within the dark crevices of their own souls, Moore wrote, "I know that I'm bringing light into that darkness. I know that I'm literally breaking the chains of horror, secrecy and devastation." But the light wasn't always there and signs of the darkness to come began for Moore at the age of 6 when she found a litter of kittens. She vividly recalls how her father asked to see the kittens, grabbed them and hung them on the clothesline. I remember saying, 'Daddy, please stop. These are my kittens. Please stop.' I kept screaming it,' Moore said.'I saw that he had a smirk on his face. And that he was really enjoying what he was doing to my kittens.' Moore said she raced into the house to get her mother but it was too late: The kittens were already dead. When Melissa was 10 her parents divorced, and five years later her mother called the whole family together for a meeting she would never forget. [Moore's mother] said, 'Your dad is in jail.' And she had this look that said, 'We're not going to talk about this. This is really hard.' And my brother said, 'For what?' and she said, 'For murder,' Moore said. It wasn't just one murder, it was at least four, all women. Jesperson was the serial murderer known as the 'Happy Face Killer' the label given for the happy faces he drew on letters to the media. Although Moore did not want to believe it, she said she immediately thought of the kittens. 'That's when I knew that what my mother had just told me was true,' Moore said. Jesperson was convicted and is currently serving three consecutive life sentences in prison in Oregon. What followed were years of keeping her shameful secret and worrying that people would think she was like her father, all the while knowing she wasn't. When she fell in love with Samuel Moore, she shared her secret with him. The two started a family together and life was pretty normal, Moore said, until the day her own 5-year-old daughter, Aspen, asked about her grandfather. 'She came home from school and asked me 'Mommy, everybody has a daddy, where's your daddy?' The innocent question made Moore realize she needed to talk. 'I have not dealt with my past, I've avoided it,' she said. 'I've been running away from it. I've been keeping a secret. I have to do something.' Melissa said she began searching for the help she needed to cope with her guilt. Finally, she emailed Dr. Phil McGraw about taking part in his 'Get Real Retreat.' She said writing that email that day was so liberating, she wrote about it in her book. 'As I pressed 'send,' I knew I was changing my life forever and maybe that of many others,' she wrote. 'Magically, some of the darkness within began to lift.' Moore said she found relief when she appeared on 'Dr. Phil. 'You have nothing to be ashamed of,' McGraw told her. 'You have done nothing wrong. You didn't kill anyone.' From 'Dr. Phil' to her new book, to a family that can now be open about the past, the dark shadow of her father's misdeeds may always hang over the family. Shattered Silence

This book is about hope and new beginnings from an individual affected by the bad choices of those close to her. This book does not glorify the crimes committed by the guilty parties, but instead honors the courage and survival of an innocent victim. The author describes both the internal and external hardships, adversities, and trials associated with her life circumstances. I felt her pain, despair, and eventually her triumph over those circumstances. This book gives hope to anyone that struggles with their own self-worth, that has been a victim of crime, and / or needs courage to survive what life has dealt them. The authors did such a great job putting this story to words that I feel like I know Melissa personally. She is an uplifting, spiritual person and I thank her for her willingness to share her story with others.

Empowering and Inspiring!

A very inspiring book created from the author's experiences that many would consider a 'hopeless' upbringing. It's beautiful to experience Melissa's triumph over childhood events and relationships that once 'shattered' from secrecy created the space for her to blossom as a rose and truly experience the beautiful dance with life she now experiences. The authors effectively place the reader in Melissa's shoes in an amazing way such that the reader comes away empowered to be the light and love that genuinely creates peace and joy in this life's journey! Thank you for your willingness to risk and be your inspiring contribution in my life and thousands of others!

Wow! I was interested in the story right away. I have seen this lady on Dr. Phil and Oprah and was so intrigued. I couldnt put the book down. It was so inspiring to see how she made different choices then her family and turned out to be so compassionate. This is a must for your collection.

SO HELPFUL!

My ESOL students adore this book as do I. As intermediate students they realize grammar is key to communication. It's both deflating and encouraging to know how many tenses of verbs exist. Of course it's true of their native tongues, too, but they take great pride in having learned half of them now! I have these 'verb bibles' as I call them in several languages.

The Uncommon History of Wine

�“Variety” in winemaking is the type of grape used

Wild grapes have existed for millions of years. Make that tens of millions–the oldest fossilized vine is dated at about 60 million years old. However, wild grapes are small and sour. The first grapes to be made into wine were domesticated, made possible by cultures that had settled and begun to grow annual crops. The oldest wine container finds have been in what are now modern-day Georgia and Iran (where it was called mei). University of Pennsylvania researchers now believe the domesticated grape may first have been planted in Georgia, then spread south.

Just one grape, Vitis vinifera, is the species responsible for 4,000 varieties around the world, but only a relatively small percentage of those are cultivated into wine. Wine production dates back about 6,500 years in Greece, and both red and white wine were important in ancient Egypt. Wine became a commodity in ancient Rome, where barrels and bottles first were used for its storage. The oldest existing bottle of wine is from a Roman colony near what is now Speyer, Germany. That bottle contains some olive oil, an early method of preserving the fermented grape juice, before corks came into use.

After winemaking spread from the Roman Empire throughout western Europe, wine became a preferred beverage in nearly all of those countries, with regional types like sherry (from the port of Jerez), Riesling (grown along the Rhine), and Tokay (a sweet Hungarian varietal) gaining favor, too.

All of these varietals were placed in jeopardy in1863 when the North American root louse Phylloxera vastatrix was brought to Europe, decimating European rootstocks for decades. After a Texan horticulturist named Thomas Munson realized the way to save European vines was through grafting them to American stock, the great vineyards were saved, albeit forever changed.

Nowadays, wineries have become much more than the place where the grapes are grown and the wine made. Many wineries are tourist destinations with overnight accommodations and tasting menus that pair foods with wines. They may also act as wedding sites and corporate conference venues.

Most winery-area real estate is expensive. Modern farming techniques have helped wineries figure out ways to get more mileage out of their acreage while not weakening the soil. Such techniques as vertical shoot positioning (VSP), in which the growth of the vines is highly controlled, results in a very neat, tight canopy. Rather than allowing vines to sprawl, VSP promotes sustainable growth. It's also healthier for the vines, making them less susceptible to disease and able to get shading from their neighbors and leading to more uniform quality.

Did they do ANY research?

My husband bought this book because he wanted a bathroom reader and I'm a useless-information junkie. I was hoping the book would be packed with nifty tidbits and juicy anecdotes. But halfway through it, I was getting the sneaking suspicion a lot of what I was reading was ... well ... somewhat lacking in the facts department.
The entries are, for the most part, excessively brief and throw out bits of history and culture helter-skelter, without any attempt at context. I assumed that was just the editors, trying to make things fit on the page. There were several instances in the sections on traditions, ceremonies and rituals where a single origin theory was presented as fact, when there are actually several competing theories (as with the origins of Mother Goose).
But when I got to the bit on baby names, I felt like smacking myself in the forehead. The authors had NO idea what they were talking about as regards Scandinavian names -- they said the children of Olaf would be Harald Olafsson (son) and Sigrid Olafsson (daughter). Then, to compound their error, they said some Scandinavian names followed the maternal line, and the children of Sigrid would be named Liv Sigridsdottir and Leif Sigridsdottir. That's the stupidest thing I've ever read. "Son" means son (obviously) and "dottir" means daughter. Not even the drunkest Viking would name his son daughter-of-Sigrid.
My only conclusion is the authors came across some girls named for their mothers and made the stunning leap that ALL of that family's kids had the same surname.
I have to wonder how many other times similar errors and leaps of illogic were made; clearly their fact-checkers (if they had any) did not do their jobs.
In short, the book is somewhat entertaining, but its claims to be a "history" of any sort are questionable at best. It is a collection of popular theory, rumor, myth and legend, packaged in a bright, easy-to-read volume. But before you go quoting it to anyone, you might want to check your "facts."

A high quality coffee table book with little information

A very nice book but with little real information. As others have said, it makes a nice coffee table item that people will pick up and look through (mostly at the high quality pictures) but no one will actually read. My 4 star rating is mostly for the pictures and the high quality of the pages.

About the Author
"Eric Chaisson." Eric holds a doctorate in astrophysics from Harvard University, where he spent ten years on the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. For five years, Eric was a Senior Scientist and Director of Educational Programs at the Space Telescope Science Institute and Adjunct Professor of Physics at Johns Hopkins University. He then joined Tufts University, where he is now Professor of Physics, Professor of Education, and Director of the Wright Center for Innovative Science Education. He has written nine books on astronomy, which have received such literary awards as the Phi Beta Kappa Prize, two American Institute of Physics Awards, Harvard's Smith-Weld Prize for Literary Merit, and the Walter P. Kistler Book Award. He has published more than 100 scientific papers in professional journals, and has also received Harvard's Bok Prize for original contributions to astrophysics. "Steve McMillan." Steve holds a bachelor's and master's degree in Mathematics from Cambridge University and a doctorate in Astronomy from Harvard University. He held post-doctoral positions at the University of Illinois and Northwestern University, where he continued his research in theoretical astrophysics, star clusters, and numerical modeling. Steve is currently Distinguished Professor of Physics at Drexel University and a frequent visiting researcher at Princeton's Institute for Advanced Study and the University of Tokyo. He has published more than 50 scientific papers in professional journals.

This is fanfiction

While the writing itself wasn’t terrible, what kept me from enjoying this book more was the fact that it is the exact plot from season one of Glee. The characters Dianna and Laurie are so obviously Quinn and Rachel, it made me laugh at how thinly veiled the attempt was to disguise that this is quite clearly fanfiction. Don’t get me wrong I love Quinn and Rachel (or Faberry), but having read variations of this story a hundred times online, only with different names slapped on here, it left me feeling keenly disappointed. Nothing about it felt original.

I’ll break down a few of the similarities:

What Dianna Faraday has in common with Quinn Fabray:

- Captain of the Cheerleading Squad
- President of the Celibacy Club
- Has a domineering and controlling father and mother who ignores the family problems and drowns herself in alcohol
- Has an encounter with the school’s resident playboy involving wine coolers and gets pregnant as a result
- Has two best friends on the cheerleading squad with her, one who is bitchy but always has her back and the other who is sweet but not the most intelligent (aka Santana and Brittany)

I could go on….

What Laurie Burns has in common with Rachel Berry:

- She is captain of the academic team (aka Glee club)
- She is the least popular girl at school and gets smeared the most frequently (which is the Glee equivalent of being slushied)
- She wears “nerdy” clothes as if she were always dressed for an interview
- She is considered bossy and a know it all but also the most hard working and talented on the team
- She has two gay dads (COME ON this is GLEE)
- She sings all the time

etc, etc….

Not to mention **spoiler**

Dianna’s mom ends up leaving her dad because she found out he was having an affair with a tattooed tramp. This is exactly what happened in season one of Glee. Practically word for word. Anyone who has seen the show will know what I'm talking about.

As much as I enjoy fanfiction, I can read that any time on the internet for free- when I purchase a book I'd rather read something original.

A beautiful love story!

I feel like this book was written about me, for me. Like Dianna, I was raised by a strict, conservative, close-minded family that accepted nothing less than perfection. The author does such an amazing job of bringing the reader to the forefront of what life was like as a teenage girl struggling with all of her insecurities, a horrible family dynamic, and emotions and desires that are not those generally accepted by the masses. I love Dianna's character; the outwardly strong head cheerleader and over-achiever who secretly struggles with an abusive father, and I love the connection she forms with a girl who seems to be her complete opposite. This book accurately depicts that time for me. There are so many wrinkles to this story. It makes for a truly addictive read. It's such a beautiful story of how love can be found in the most dire of circumstances and in the most unusual of circumstances. I'm anxiously waiting for a sequel.

Enduring and emotional

`Unbearable Girl' is an enduring story that goes beyond teenager angst and into abuse, same-sex relationships and teen pregnancy. I found Dianne to be an exceptionally strong heroine against harsh odds. How she was able to maintain a `perfect' exterior while enduring so much pain was both moving and inspirational. With her friendship to Laurie, who is in every way her opposite at first, she is able to cope and break free of the unfair oppression in her life and experience the true meaning of what it is to be loved and have a family.

This is a book that will keep you emotionally hooked from beginning to end, and it is one to enjoy reading again in the future.
